Haras du Berlais

The high value of this Land of Traditions was recognized with major awards during the 1900 Paris World Fair.

Originally, the Berlais breeding was entirely geared to "Mules poitevines *". There were about fourty and their offsprings (muletons) were sold to most of the mediterranean countries.

Its very unusual physique and strength as a draft mule combined with its agility and a wonderful disposition have made him a valuable member of the zoological french heritage.

It is the tallest mule in the world and the only breed registered as a mule in France.

Today, there are only two of them left at the Haras du Berlais, leaving room for our thoroughbreds.

* Mule poitevine : cross between a "Mulassière du Poitou" and a "Baudet du Poitou" Sire
